A lot was expected from the first cabinet meeting of Yogi Adityanath led UP government, which took place on Tuesday and the hopes of farmers have been fulfilled to a great extent. As per their promise, the BJP government has waived off farmers’ loans upto Rs. 1 lakh.

This move will benefit nearly 2.15 crore small-scale and marginalized farmers of the state. However, it has come with a burden of Rs. 36,000 crore on the government and public.

During the campaigning for elections, BJP promised to waive off loans of farmers, as BJP President Amit Shah said in a rally,

“If you elect the government of BJP, it will not let the farmers to remain in plight. Our ann-data should not be betrayed. It is the duty of the government to address their plight. We will waive off the loans of farmers with limited capacities.”

Keshav Prasad Maurya, the chief of UP unit of BJP, also repeated this promise many times in his rallies.

Yogi Adityanath has gone strict on those government school teachers who are running private coaching classes, as a complete ban has been imposed on this activity and if they are found running coaching classes, an FIR will be filed against them. Adityanath was not happy with the manner in which the state-owned schools were being operated and he announced that some major reforms would take place in schools within the next 100 days.

However, everybody was interested in knowing about the decision on loan waiver as the government and ministers were quite mum on this issue after forming the government and a doubt took birth in the minds of people whether this promise would be fulfilled or not.

It is said that Surya Pratap Shahi, the agriculture minister of the state, has sent an approximate figure of 1.5 crore selected farmers who should be given loan waiver. Surya Pratap has also suggested the CM to set up wheat buying centers all over the state so that 80 lakh metric tonnes of wheat can be purchased from the UP farmers. The MSP for wheat has been set at Rs. 1625 per quintal.
